Week 2 - Voiceline Animation (Blocking)
For week 2 of our Senior Portfolio class, I jumped the gun a bit to block out my first animation. I've decided to start off with a voiceline animation, a random excerpt from the 2005 movie "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory". This animation will include the skinny demon rig by 3D Rigger Truong CG Artist . I thought it'd be a little fun project to have a goofy demon with Willy Wonka's voice. Everyone loves goofy demon characters, or at least I'd like to believe so.
Anyway, I plan on further fleshing out the blocking for this animation probably over the weekend. The majority of this week's planning was finding my first animation to work on, and whether or not it's a gameplay animation, or cinematic sort of practice animation with conversation.
As I progress through the blocking, I'll make sure to capture some real life footage for reference. Luckily, I have a sort of mini written storyboard that will remind me what key poses will go where, and what the key poses will be (basically a description of each pose ordered to the maya animation timeline).
Other than this current project, I've grabbed a few rigs, such as the free Amanda rig, a Ms. Fortune rig from the fighting game Skullgirls (not entirely sure if I can make any portfolio animations with it but), the Miles Morales Spiderman model (I've seen a good chunk of animations with that rig, and it looks very fun to try), and the Twigs cowboy model that a few of my previous classmates used for projects. Looks kind of close to the Malcom model, so I wanted to see if I could spice things up a bit and use something other than the Malcom model for a few animations. If push comes to shove, I'll probably eventually use the Malcom model again.
Rigs I've gathered so far
After this current animation, maybe I could begin alternating between voiceline animation and gameplay animation...
