Final 493 Project Blog Post

Not an outstanding semester of animation for me if I'll be quite honest. And no real excuse to write as well. But as I've received at least a good amount of compliments for the progress that I've made with my demon animation, it definitely could've had the potential to be a better semester than it could've, but I had just needed to put in the time necessary to really put out something worth showing. My goals this semester was to make at the very least, 3 animations: My dialogue animation, a dance animation, and a parkour, fight, or another dialogue animation. However, the time management was not sufficient enough to put enough work and effort to get out and showcase my goal progress. I had achieved at least a few ways and obstacles to avoid when going about my animation: Attempting to get bits and chunks done every day or so, rather than spending the whole day on an animation, and two, learning that classwork should definitely come first before anything else really...

Week 13 - A bit more facial animations and last bit progress

…And by last bit I mean splining and getting a feel for the end of the voice clip. I've also added in a bit of work for his facial expressions, so it should look a little bit more finished than it was before (man animating a lanky person really does take ever so slightly more work, as well as a tail for a human-like being). We're entering the final stretch and I'd like to get this finished and rendered for our last get together in class. I wanted to create more than what I currently have, but you can do only as much as you dedicate time to.  I'll attempt to get something quick and easy done, and hopefully 2 of them. I believe one of my classmates my one or two idle poses revolving around a warrior blocking and or attack, so maybe I could do one of those and call it a semester (of course after this animation is cleaned up and rendered). I have to get myself together to pull through.

Week 12 - Lots and lots more poses

Noticing that the voice clip that I retrieved, plus how I want to have the character animated requires a lot more poses than I thought it would. It definitely should've been obvious to me, however  I had the notion that I had too many poses at the beginning of the semester, only to realize that the teacher was probably telling me I was rushing getting poses out, and not really thinking where the true important poses were. So here we are. Not exactly thoroughly finished with the entire draft of the splined remake of the demon, but I do have a general idea of where to head next. Since I'm extremely terrible at doing things that I write on paper, I will just say that things are going smoother than usual. Over Thanksgiving Break I should be good to go for my dance animation I'd like to move forward with. It will most definitely not involve a 13(?) second voice clip with too many quirky poses, however it will have at least a good amount of difficulty to it. Not sure h...

Week 11 - Remembering a few techniques

Throughout the week, I've felt this sort of distraught feeling that I may or may not've forgotten how to really step my poses out, but eventually I remembered a certain, awkward way that I followed through it in my past animation classes... 11 weeks in of course. So eventually, this will be done sooner or later (or I might change the video preview above to show the complete thing), and I'll be able to get started on more easier projects for the mind, knowing that this is a lanky model that I'd have to make more expressive so their posture isn't so stiff.  So my odd strategy to animating that I just now remembered is the fact that I like to step all of my poses all together, and not spaced out until I have them correct, then I choose to spread them out to their corresponding timing areas on the frame key area (forgot what it's called I'll be honest). It's an odd strategy, but if it can help me get out of a stuck area animation wise, then this will be a s...

Week 10 - Animation Overhaul

For this week I've decided to overhaul the demon animation. I looked a bit further into the rig and what I could do with it, only to realize I hadn't activated IK controls, which is what I usually work with. Oops. I'd say I got a good amount of progress in so far, and would like to finish before next week comes through. I've ensured that I don't frame too many poses in sync with one another, as well as enabling a bit of offset in the mix. After putting a bit more work and taking a closer look into what I'm working with, I can eventually get to other projects. My next project, I'll definitely look further into the channel box to ensure that the right controls, or controls that I want to use for my animation are enabled and ready to be used so that I don't suffer too extremely much wondering why I over-key or manage my time wrong... I see the merit in FK controls (better control over your posing), however it is very time consuming. I'll definitely nee...

Week 9 - More Spline Progress & Ideas on Future Progress

To be fairly honest, I feel as though I've stepped my demon man in an inefficient manner, and so I would like to go back over him for an animation overhaul. I believe that Mr. Pullyblank called it overstepping or overkeying? That most likely could be the case to how I usually go about my animations... For this to-be scrapped animation however, I took the advice of some of my animation peers, lengthening the stretch a bit (it probably could use a bit more frames, but my overall frames of the demon is too cluttered to rearrange...), and animated the tail to be a bit more lively. I would like to note here to myself that it was said to put more holding and or frames after the shock of hearing the girl speak in my voiceline clip, and that my movements for the demon are too in sync with one another, in which I need to offset my frames a bit (will ask about that later). Even though this animation file will be scrapped, I will use this as a sort of rough draft of how I'd like to have ...

Week 7 - Splined a bit of Demon Wonka

While I've planned on the blocking of my dance animation from last week, I've been trailing a bit behind on what I'd like to do with my demon animation.  I was recommended that I put some lighting in to see the demon more clearly, so I implemented this notion just so that he is less darkened and silhoutte-ish. The splining so far is a bit difficult due to me having a few misplaced frames here and there, so I would hope that I can find time to fix it this weekend. Also I did a slight amount of facial animation for the clip that I've provided. While I am stumped on my "Demon Wonka" animation, knowing that when I do decide to pull my weight on some of these animations like I usually do in a inexcusably late fashion, I would like to complete these few animations so that I won't have to make a list later: Demon Wonka Dance Animation Parkour Animation Fight Animation The Punisher - No no no I know I can get these done in a considerable amount of time, I just n...
