Week 4 - Blocking Fix...

Last week, group Bravo had to present a week of their blogpost, in which I had to present mine. I was told that, although the idea is good, I had a little too many poses in the blocking phase, so I worked on getting key poses only (there may or may not be an excessive amount still...) so that when I go to spline, it won't look too choppy and or finicky.  I also went in to put more detail and expression into the hands so that they aren't all one repeating position. I like the end result, although it is a little out of my comfort zone to block with little amount of blocking poses (which should be kept to a minimum normally), I will need to visualize and plan out the in-betweens so that the splining will go smoothly. Since this week I only made time to straighten out my key poses, I would like to discuss further plans with the animation. I wanted to do a close-up sort of key pose where he whispers to the audience after he says "foot", however if I recall correctly, it...

Week 3 - Blocking Refinement

Hello! So for week 3, I went ahead and shot some very corny, and embarrassing references for my animation. I made sure to do multiple retakes of it, and eventually came across two instances where that I found expressive enough to be animated. I believe one of them didn't have too good of an end pose so I nabbed two just to ensure that I have either or to choose from.  Also, so I won't have to shoot for it later, I made sure to get some facial and or lip sync reference for when I eventually get to the facial expressions, so here we are: The voice clip I nabbed from the Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory movie showcases Willy Wonka and his very hyper-esque personality to him. I instead want to have my demon buddy have a bit more of an attitude and or mean look to him responding to the girl, hopefully more different than the main speaker's original tone and body language that has more of an accidental smart response. While my reference isn't exactly well aligned with m...

Week 2 - Voiceline Animation (Blocking)

Image
For week 2 of our Senior Portfolio class, I jumped the gun a bit to block out my first animation. I've decided to start off with a voiceline animation, a random excerpt from the 2005 movie "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory". This animation will include the skinny demon rig by 3D Rigger Truong CG Artist  . I thought it'd be a little fun project to have a goofy demon with Willy Wonka's voice. Everyone loves goofy demon characters, or at least I'd like to believe so. Anyway, I plan on further fleshing out the blocking for this animation probably over the weekend. The majority of this week's planning was finding my first animation to work on, and whether or not it's a gameplay animation, or cinematic sort of practice animation with conversation. As I progress through the blocking, I'll make sure to capture some real life footage for reference. Luckily, I have a sort of mini written storyboard that will remind me what key poses will go where, and wha...

Week 1 - Planning

Image
Hi, my name is Cameron Palmer. My goal coming out of my final year is to net myself a gameplay animator job at some sort of indie company, or if I'm lucky enough, get one at a AAA company. Only time, and the way I spend it, will tell.  This semester I would like to work on a variety of mini 5 to 20(?) second clips involving either voice clips from various sources, and or gameplay animations that have to do with general attack animations, walk animations, and other ideas. Maybe as time goes by, I might fiddle around with 3D modeling if I can continue to stay on track with animations this semester, so hopefully everything goes well. My plan for the voice clips will most likely come through the 11 second club website, or a website I found named Movie Mistakes. These both provide clips and or ideas for lip sync, gesture, and overall body movement practice and portfolio building. I would like to start off with this approach so I don't feel to drained if I decide to find my own voi...
